About Books And Stuff
Sometimes I come upon a book that I read in an instant as it grabs me and I enjoy reading it so immensely. Then if I'm lucky I can read several books on that one thrill. And if the following books are good as well I can find my self on a reading spree, reading loads of books.
I just read three books in a row in a rather short time, they were:
Out Of The Black Shadows - Stephen Lungu
The Bookseller Of Kabul - Åsne Seierstad
101 Days - Åsne Seierstad
They were all fantastic. But now I'm stuck. I started reading a book about Desmond Tutu. It was called the fight for South Africa 1974-94 or something, not sure about the title.
I thought that it would be about Desmond Tutu, but it only contained his speeches and letters during that time, and even if they were interesting I just didn't find the motivation to read the whole book. I may finnish it some day, but not now.
After that I started reading Niagara! by Rolf Aggestam.
I read about 30 pages, then I decided to quit. The language is just too poetic and it doesn't take the story anywhere. It's probably a good book and it does bring forth some feelings, but it didn't grab me and I don't have the time or the energy to struggle through a book. It either grabs me or not, and if it doesn't, I just won't read it.
It's kind of like an advanced guitar solo, usually it's just the guitar fanatics and other guitar players that enjoy listening to such things. I don't like advanced guitar solos, not because they are advanced but for me they need a lot of feeling. I have nothing against advanced guitar solos with lots of feeling to them, but guitar solos aka Yngwie Malmsteen don't impress me at all.
While a gutiar solo by John Frusciante is muy mucho appreciated by me.
The same goes for books. Sometimes it feels like an author only writes for his fellow authors, showing off his skills in using the language, while us common, poor, stupid readers don't get much at all out of it.
There was a time when I looked down upon people who read cheap criminal-novels, but nowadays I understand them more. If the book has good language but still is easy to read then I probably will like it.
I want to be able to follow the story in a book even if my wife is talking to me at the same time, or if kids are playing around me, or if I'm eating at the same time.
I hate it when I've read two pages and then don't remember what actually happened during those two pages.
I like it simple and exciting.
I'm simple.
And enjoy reading.
Have a good day.

My father said that if you are not in to a book after the first 30 pages, it isn´t a good book...
